Plan the flow of your video without writing every line

Some videos need direction without a line-by-line script. Outline-led gives vlogs, demonstrations, and exploratory videos a structure: the points to cover, the feeling to create, and the footage to bring home.

How it works

Capture the intended flow

Create scenes for the main sections of the video. Write talking points, ideas, transitions, and notes about tone or pacing in each scene’s outline.

Keep the structure flexible

Insert scenes where you need them, collapse sections to review the whole plan, and reorder scenes as the video takes shape. Scene numbering follows the narrative order.

Plan the footage that matters

Attach shots to the scenes they support. Describe the framing, subject, camera movement, and requirements. Add independent B-roll for details, cutaways, and extra coverage that does not belong to one scene.

Take the plan into production

Group compatible shots by location, camera, and lens. Work through the shoot checklist on your phone, mark captured shots, and leave editor notes. Bring multiple projects into a batch shoot when their setups can be shared.

Example: a hands-on product demonstration

Outline three sections: the problem, the setup, and the result. List the points to explain without scripting every sentence. Add a wide demonstration shot to the setup scene and put connector close-ups in B-roll. On set, use the outline as direction while leaving room to respond to what happens.

Questions about outline-led production

Do I need to write a screenplay?

No. The Outline-led preset starts with Outline and production tools. Screenplay and Presenter script can stay hidden until you need them.

Can I add scripted dialogue later?

Yes. Enable Screenplay in Project settings and write scene elements alongside the outline. On desktop, enabling both tools also makes Split view available.

How are scene shots different from B-roll?

Scene shots belong directly to a scene in narrative order. B-roll is an independent list of extra footage. Both support requirement tags, production setups, and capture status.

Will hiding a tool delete its content?

No. Tool switches change the project workspace’s visible tools and preserve saved content. You can enable the tool again later.
