Plan a YouTube video from presenter script to B-roll

Some videos start with the words. Record your talking-head performance first, shape the edit, then work out which close-ups, demonstrations, and animations will help tell the story. Scene Dept. gives that process a home alongside your production planning.

How it works

Write a continuous script

Paste a script or write it paragraph by paragraph. Use paragraph labels to identify passages during recording. Locked labels stay fixed and inserted paragraphs receive suffixes unless an editor explicitly unlocks and renumbers the script.

Record and track pickups

Track CAM A and voice-over capture separately, flag paragraphs that need another take, and leave recording notes. Export TXT or RTF with optional paragraph labels for import into a compatible teleprompter.

Plan visuals against the edit

Link supporting visuals to a paragraph or selected passage. Add a duration, edit timecode, notes, or asset reference. Choose filmed footage, animation, screen recording, or an existing asset.

Bring filmed footage into production

Filmed supporting visuals become B-roll shots. Tag location, camera, and lens, group them into setups, and include them in a batch shoot with your other projects.

Example: explaining a new controller

Record the explanation for P003, then find the best take in your edit. Add a six-second connector close-up against that paragraph and an animation explaining signal flow. The close-up becomes a B-roll shot; the animation remains a supporting-visual task. Both retain the script context.

Questions about presenter-led production

Can I use this with Teleprompter on iPad?

Scene Dept. exports TXT and RTF files, with or without paragraph labels. Teleprompter by Teleprompter Apps Ltd supports importing these formats. Download to Files and import into the app. This is file export, not a direct sync integration or native cue-point export.

Does Scene Dept. integrate directly with Premiere or MovieSlate?

There is no direct Premiere or MovieSlate integration. Paragraph labels can serve as references in your recording workflow, and you can enter edit timecodes or asset references manually.

Can I also use an outline or screenplay?

Yes. Presenter-led is a starting preset. Enable Outline, Screenplay, or other tools in Project settings whenever you need them. Hiding a tool preserves its content.
